AGE GROUPS:

Youth: Preschool to 6th Grade
Teen: 7th to 12th Grade
Family/Adult: 18 Years and older

PRIZE CATEGORIES:

1. Traditional Harvest Figures: These scarecrows will be typically old-fashioned figures constructed from throwaways from the farm. Clothing, hay, stuffing, burlap, farm implements, farm produce (corn husks, vegetables, pumpkins, etc.) are but a few ideas of the traditional scarecrow.

2. Humorous Scarecrows: These scarecrows should at a minimum evoke a smile! Current events, storybook characters, cartoon figures, crazy characters, out of the ordinary situations are just a few ideas for the humorous scarecrow. These characters would be fictional.

3. Celebrity Scarecrows: Use your imagination! This scarecrow can depict a modern day celebrity or one from your past. Materials used may include metal, plastics, ceramics, etc. A celebrity is a real person. Hint: A movie star is a real person or a person highlighted in a book or on the big screen.

PRIZES:

1st Award $300 (each category and each age group)
2nd Award $150 (each category and each age group)
3rd Award $75 (each category and each age group)
4th Award $25 (each category and each age group)

JUDGING:

Judging begins at 11:30am with awards presented at 2:30pm, Saturday, September 16, 2006. The judges are volunteers and are not employed by Emma Krumbees. All judging decisions are final. Unclaimed prize money will be mailed to winners no later than September 26, 2006.

SCARECROW ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

MATERIALS:

As all scarecrow entries must remain on display outside September 16 through October 29, 2006 and may be subjected to severe wind, snow, and/or rain - their construction should be durable and all ornamentation securely attached. All scarecrows and their materials become the sole property of Emma Krumbee's. Emma Krumbee's reserves the right to remove any scarecrow that does not hold up to natural elements.

ARMATURE:

Each scarecrow must have a horizontal support of wood for the body (2" x 4" post preferred)., This support is needed as each scarecrow will be wired to a steel fence post for display. The fence post will be provided, but the builder of the scarecrow should bring a method far attaching their scarecrow, such as wire or rope.

SIZE LIMITATION:

Minimum height 4 feet. Maximum height 8 feet. Maximum circumference area 8 feet. The entire structure is considered to be the dimension of the scarecrow, not the dimension of the actual scarecrow within the. exhibit. Your exhibit may include more than one figure but no more than four.

SCARECROW ENTRY SPECIFICATIONS

DELIVERY OF ENTRIES:

Entrants are responsible for bringing their fully assembled scarecrow to Emma Krumbee's parking lot from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm September 15, 2006 or 9:00 am to 11:30 am September 16, 2006. Emma Krumbee's personnel will be available to assist entrants in location and designated support posts. All entries must be completed by noon Saturday, September 16, 2006.

RESTRICTIONS:

  • Youth entries must be completed by children. Parents may assist in placing scarecrow on display.
  • All entries are subject to limitations of space availability as well as the standards of display set up by Emma Krumbee's Management. Emma Krumbee's reserves the right to deny entry privileges of displays considered to be offensive.

Neither Emma Krumbee's nor their agents will be held responsible for any injury or damage associated with the 2006 Great Scarecrow Contest.

It is understood that Emma Krumbee's and its agents may use photographs of, stories about, and the actual scarecrow entries themselves as well as all information contained on this Entry Form for publicity and promotion of the event.

It is understood that all entries and ornamentation becomes the sole property of Emma Krumbees.
